NRTL Approval (National recognized test laboratory)

In North America, there is a certification requirement for products to be approved by certain NRTL, mainly for electrical and electronic equipment/component.

The organizations recognized by OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) as NRTL include UL, CSA, ETL, MET, TUV, etc.

Depends on the organization you choose there are 2 or 4 factory audits per year. More factory audits may be required if the factory owns more certified products.

FCC Certification

In order to obtain market approval for an electronic products in USA, each manufacturer must obtain mandatory FCC certifications. Before being imported into USA, those electronic products must be tested and evaluated by a FCC designated Telecommunication Certification Bodies (TCBs) according to FCC standards.

IC Certification

IC is an abrasive of Industry Canada, which is responsible for the certification of electronic products, including radio and television broadcast equipment, information technology equipment, telecommunication equipment, ISM equipment. IC only limits the electromagnetic interference.

FDA Approval /Registration

Medical devices, from ideation to post-launch assessment, are directed in the United States by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the Medical Device Regulation Act of 1976 an ensuing revision to the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetics Act of 1938.

All organizations intending to move the medical device in the United States need to officially list their product with the US FDA. Most Class I devices can be self-enrolled but a great amount of Class II devices require a 510(k) submission. And for Class III devices, a Pre-Market (PMA) submission is required.

Energy Efficiency Approval

DOE - The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Appliances and Commercial Equipment Standards Program develops test procedures and minimum efficiency standards for residential appliances and commercial equipment. Before a product can be sold, the manufacturer must submit energy use data to the DOE and FTC (Federal Trade Commission) stating that it complies with the regulations. They must also report to DOE and FTC when a new model is introduced or an existing one discontinued.

CEC - The 2007 Appliance Efficiency Regulations were adopted by the California Energy Commission (CEC) on June 20, 2007, and approved by the California Office of Administrative Law. These are mandatory regulations, and include standards for both federally-regulated appliances and non-federally-regulated appliances.

NRCan - Before selling in Canada, 47 kinds of regulated energy-using products must be tested by a Recognized Certification Bodies and then registered in NRCan.

Argentina S Mark

Argentina S Mark Approval is a mandatory safety approval in Argentina. All low voltage devices (AC≤ 1000V or DC≤ 1500V).

Argentina CNC Mark

In Argentina, telecommunication equipment comply with specific standards and regulations that are developed and established by the National Communications (CNC).

Brazil INMETRO Mark

INMETRO is Brazil’s accreditation body, is responsible for the accredited of each Certification Body and testing lab. INMETRO defines the products and the respective requirements. Before selling in Brazil, a certificate must be obtained from an accredited certification body.

SEC Certification (Chile)

SEC (Safety) certification is mandatory for certain products in Chile. The regulated products must be tested and certified by SEC accredited certification body.

In Some cases, energy efficiency certification is also required, which is established by SEC.
